Home On the Range: "If she could have sat with me that night, I would have told her how much that the years had brought me. Despite the struggles, I would have told her how much she taught me, how deeply sorry I was for the impatience of my youth, how unappreciative I may sometimes have seemed to what she brought me., the tools she gave me to construct a good life. I would say that I hope wherever she was, that she she had the happiness she brought us, as my tears mingled with the sweat of my work.

Salt and truth."

The Skeptical Optimist

The Skeptical Optimist: "Harvard Law Prof. Charles Ogletree told how Mr. Obama spoke on one contentious issue at the law school, and each side thought he was endorsing their view. Mr. Ogletree said: 'Everyone was nodding, Oh, he agrees with me.'

The reason I have never forgotten this article is its last sentence, in which Al Gore's former chief of staff Ron Klain, also of Harvard Law, reflects on the Obama sensation: 'The interesting caveat is that is a style of leadership more effective running a law review than running a country.'"

A bear walks into a bar in Billings , Montana and sits down. He bangs on the bar with his paw and demands a beer.

The bartender approaches and says, ‘We don’t serve beer to bears in bars in Billings ‘

The bear, becoming angry, demands again that he be served a beer.

The bartender tells him again, more forcefully, ‘We don’t serve beer to belligerent bears in bars in Billings ..’

The bear, very angry now, says, ‘If you don’t serve me a beer, I’m going to eat that lady sitting at the end of the bar.’

The bartender says, ‘Sorry, we don’t serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings ‘

The bear goes to the end of the bar, and, as promised, eats the woman. He comes back to his seat and again demands a beer.

The bartender states, ‘Sorry, but we especially don’t serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings who are on drugs.’

The bear looks at him quizzically and says, ‘I’m not on drugs.’

(You’re gonna love me for this…)

The bartender says, “You are now. That was a barbitchyouate”

VDH's Private Papers::Sleeping Through Speeches

VDH's Private Papers::Sleeping Through Speeches

While Obama was praising the U.N., the U.N. was showing America why most of us don’t want much to do with it. The Gaddafi and Ahmadinejad rambling hate-filled speeches were lunatic and nutty; but, remember, they are typical, not unrepresentative of the sort of leaders that the world outside the West so often produces these days. A Chavez, Kim Jong Il, Assad, or Mullah Omar would say about the same. Why would Obama wish to brag of returning to the human rights council given the creepy regimes on it? Watching the U.N. watch Ahmadinejad, I was reminded of Europe circa July 1941. As Hitler swept through Russia, suddenly a Spain, a Sweden, a Turkey, a Romania, a Hungary, etc. as both Axis allies and as neutrals, all in varying ways were horse-trading with Nazi Germany for various trade deals, land grabs, and general profiteering. That the Wehrmacht slaughtered Jews by the thousands the day it entered Russia, mattered not at all; the Nazis looked like winners and it was time to cut deals. By 1944/5, the opposite was true: neutrals and formal allies were bailing and claiming they had been coerced, duped, had no choices, and were now our friends if not allies, after all. Take away oil, and Ahmadinejad and Gaddafi would be written off as two-bit psychopaths that no legitimate body would let in the service entrance.

Bob Dylan nee Zimmerman :)

Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man,
His enemies say he's on their land.
They got him outnumbered about a million to one,
He got no place to escape to, no place to run.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully just lives to survive,
He's criticized and condemned for being alive.
He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin,
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land,
He's wandered the earth an exiled man.
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn,
He's always on trial for just being born.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized,
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad.
The bombs were meant for him.
He was supposed to feel bad.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him,
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac.
He's the neighborhood bully.

He got no allies to really speak of.
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love.
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace,
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease.
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly.
To hurt one they would weep.
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Every empire that's enslaved him is gone,
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon.
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand,
In bed with nobody, under no one's command.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon,
No contract he signed was worth what it was written on.
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth,
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What's anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin', they say.
He just likes to cause war.
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed,
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers?
Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill,
Running out the clock, time standing still,
Neighborhood bully.

Quote of the Day

"An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself... A murderer is less to fear." --Marcus Tullius Cicero

Unearthed! Obama's twisted ACORN roots

Unearthed! Obama's twisted ACORN roots

Mostly Cajun, All American and Opinionated Joe Wilson

Mostly Cajun, All American and Opinionated Joe Wilson

Yeah, THAT Joe Wilson, the one who called Obama a liar. Even the republican “leadership” was shocked.

Kind of speaks volumes about republican “leaders”.

What about “decorum”? Who was talking about decorum a few years back when the story about the kiting of checks from the congressional post office? Or when Barney Frank’s weiner du jour was running a gay prostitution ring out of their joint (heh) apartment? Or when the besainted Teddy Kennedy and Chris Dodd made the waitress sandwich? To ascribe ANY amount of “decorum” to congress is akin to gift-wrapping a bag of dogshit.

Our Imperial Congress, both sides, regularly meets and acts like they’re playing games. They have quaint little rules and traditions that they wrap themselves in to differentiate themselves from us hoi polloi. And at the end of the day, they go away, having put forth changes that affect MY daily life.

60-Second Science Blog Directory: Scientific American Blog: "At least some members of the Obama Administration plan to call for an end to fossil fuel subsidies as part of next week's G20 economic leaders summit, citing positive impacts ranging from improved energy security to combating climate change. But how much does the U.S. government pay? Well, according to a new analysis from the Environmental Law Institute released today, roughly $72 billion between 2002 and 2008.

More than $54 billion of that was in the form of 23 different tax credits for oil, coal and natural gas producers, including those overseas, most of which are permanent provisions of the U.S. Tax Code. Just $18.3 billion was grants and other direct cash for research and development and other pursuits, such as the Strategic Petroleum Reserve."

Liberal Rapture

Liberal Rapture
The persistence of the illusion that economists know anything is astonishing. Tuesday Mr. Bernanke, who apparently couldn't be bothered to warn anyone of the coming collapse last fall, said the economic recession is over.

Phew! That wasn't so bad. Bailout the banks by forcing a nation into decades of debt, print piles of cash and BANG! It's over! Whoo hoo!

Here's the dirty little secret Bernanke and his crew avoid: When they say the recession is over - they mean it's over FOR THEM.

Liberal Rapture

Liberal Rapture: "The use of the word 'racist' has been so warped and abused since BHO came on the scene that soon it will be synonymous with being called:

*a patriot,
*a person of integrity
*a courageous American
*a person willing to speak truth to power,
*a person who refuses to be controlled and talked down to.

So go ahead - call me racist."

CHARMING, JUST CHARMING: Doctors Vs Guns

CHARMING, JUST CHARMING: Doctors Vs Guns

Doctors Vs Guns

Doctors
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is around 700,000..
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.1%.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

Guns
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) Accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.00188%.
Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember,
'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT:
NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,
BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.
We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

*** Out of concern for the public at large,
I withheld the statistics on lawyers
for fear the shock would cause people to panic
and seek medical attention!

The Kirk Report Blog Archive 7 Questions

The Kirk Report Blog Archive 7 Questions

Q: On four different trades over the last month, I was in ahead of the crowd and in great position, only to lose confidence, get out at a loss, and then watch the things go up. I am scared now to trade and I need to take steps to boost my confidence. Will you consider this and make suggestions? Thank you so much.

A: You need to first take a detailed look at your stop loss strategy. When I hear these things, typically (but not always) it is because stops are set to tight and/or you’re trading extremely volatile positions. I would take the last 50 trades you made and were stopped out at loss in order to determine whether the stop strategy you are using (like one based on average true range) was effective. In addition, if you’re not using a consistent stop strategy in this regard (i.e. you are getting stopping out when you “feel like it or when it “looks good”) you need to start incorporating one right now. Being consistent here is important and will help improve your consistency overall.

As for your level of confidence, remember there’s no room for perfection in trading. Mistakes will be made and you will get stopped and chopped on good positions routinely if you’re doing a good job of managing your risk. After evaluating your stop loss strategy, I’d also look closely into how you position size and whether you are using any “scale-in” techniques. Both are integral parts of the process here.

Finally, the best way to restore confidence is moving onto the next trade once you taken time to fully analyze what has happened with your stop outs and you have established confidence in the exit strategy you use even with the whipsaws that are likely to continue to occur. If your methods are sound, four bad trades shouldn’t rattle your confidence unless they’re the only four trades you’ve made and the exit strategy is faulty by design.

Smith | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com: "I asked another student how many times he thought you had to be 'right' as a chart reader in order to make money. I'll bet his answer was the same as yours: 51%. But, of course, that's wrong. The correct answer is that there is no correct answer. You could be right 1% of the time and be filthy rich. How? Let's say I did 100 trades last year, and won once. However, that winner netted me a 200% gain. The 99 losers? I cashed out each for a 1% loss. See the interplay between win rate and gain per trade?"

Gary's Greatest Hits on Trading | Gary B. Smith | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com: "The most efficient way to turn a small amount of money into a large amount is through constant compounding. Even small percentage gains per day add up to big gains over time. I asked one of the students if he started with $5,000 and every trading day increased it only 0.5%, how much he'd have after five years. He guessed about $50,000. The answer is $3 million."

John Fund Interviews David Walker: The Deficits Are Coming! - WSJ.com

John Fund Interviews David Walker: The Deficits Are Coming! - WSJ.com: "'Our $56 trillion in unfunded obligations amount to $483,000 per household. That's 10 times the median household income—so it's as if everyone had a second or third mortgage on a house equal to 10 times their income but no house they can lay claim to.' As for this year's likely deficit of $1.8 trillion, Mr. Walker suggests its size be conveyed thusly: 'A deficit that large is $3.4 million a minute, $200 million an hour, $5 billion a day,' he says. That does indeed put things into perspective."
